Ever find the perfect cookie from a cookie company only to have them either go out of business or stop selling it? Well, if you haven’t, I have. There once was a cookie that I looked forward to after every clean scan. Let me back up. I had Hodgkins Lymphoma many moons ago. While I was going through treatment, I was a very clean eater. However, every time I would have a clean scan, I would allow myself a ‘cheat’. That typically meant a giant, freshly squeezed carrot juice and my absolute FAVORITE orange chocolate sugar cookie. Sadly, they company is no longer around. #bestsugarcookie #sugarcookies
Fast forward to today. I have spent many, MANY days/weeks…working on replicating. While this one isn’t quite what the original was, it’s a very close second. If you are someone who likes a good chocolate orange peel and you like sugar cookies, you will LOVE these!
Recipe notes:
- Do not melt the butter! If you melt the butter the cookie will not be the same. Baking is chemistry. The measurements must be precise and the temps as well.
- Room temp butter, what does that mean? You should be able to bend the stick when it is room temp. If you can do this, the butter is perfect for the creaming stage.
- Don’t under mix the butter and sugar during the creaming stage. It’s very important to cream the butter and sugar fully. I go at least 5 mins scraping the sides during.

As always, I look forward to hearing how yours turned out. Please let me know if you’ve made them and link me to any pictures. If you have any questions, please send me a note. I am always happy to help.
