This is a blast from my past. I’m sure I am aging myself by saying that when I was a child, cake mixes would include recipes on the box to turn the mix into cookies. At some point, the recipes disappeared and the cake mix changed. They started adding things that would make the cake mix ‘moister’…is that a word? The changes didn’t lend to a tasty cookie.
This recipe has taken quite a few years to perfect, to get it to what I remember from my youth. When I make them, I still go back to the Macy’s parade that was on TV while my mom was baking them in the kitchen. These are my oldest’s sons favorite. I’m not sure what his memory will be of them, but I love that it’s a recipe that he now has so that he can keep the tradition alive.
The cake mix may not be the easiest to find. My grocery store does not sell this. I will link to Amazon to purchase. I have tried the ‘confetti’ cake mix but it’s not the same. These are worth ordering the cherry cake mix. You won’t be disappointed. I am an Amazon affiliate. I may get a bonus if you buy yours from my link. If you do, I thank you. :). Cherry Cake Mix.
Let me know what you think if you make them and be sure to post your pictures on my social media so that I can see your creations!
Enjoy!
***For these, don’t pre-heat the oven. Use the time it takes for your oven to hydrate your dough. I cannot stress enough what a difference this will make in your cookie.
