There are a few things that tend to work into our weekly rotation. Hot dogs are one of them. Everyone loves them. I try to not think about what or how a hotdog is actually made. I don’t know, if you eat healthy 80% of the time is it ok?
One of our favorites is a true Coney Dog. Now if you are saying, ‘isn’t that just a hotdog with chili?’…. you are wrong. A chili dog and a coney dog are two entirely different animals. Coney sauce is made differently and it’s actually a tad bit tangy.

When making chili, you will be browning your meat and then adding to it. A coney dog, as strange as this may sound, you will be adding your raw beef to water then cooking. I know, it sounds strange. I was a naysayer the first time I was introduced to them. I will confess, they are so GOOD!
As with anything, you can cook them for a minimum time but they will be so much better if you have at least an hour to cook this down. These are a fan favorite. If you aren’t from an area where you have a Skyline Chili, you may not be quite as familiar. While Skyline has a tasty option, they aren’t a true coney dog.
How to top the dog? We opt for onions and cheese. Add your favorite hot dog toppings and it’s a WIN. I also like grilling my dogs. If you don’t have that option, do a skillet ‘fry’. I know they can be boiled, but no. Get a skillet, you don’t need any oil, and put your dogs in it. Just like you see when they are rotating at the movies, roll them around the pan until they are finished. This is much better than boiling. My boys think it’s better than grilling.
